Happy Heart Day To Me!

Wow! I haven't posted in a looooong time. I bet no one is even checking my blog for posts anymore. That kinda sucks, but I'm gonna post anyway. The last time I posted was May 8, just a few days before Mother's Day. (And yes, I DID get the Lego set I wanted!)

A lot has happened. Well, okay. Maybe one LITTLE thing. I sprained my left foot the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. It was a really bad sprain. I was on crutches for almost 4 weeks, and my foot is finally starting to feel normal again. How did I do it, you ask? I chased a hardened criminal after he snatched a little old lady's purse. I caught him and he tripped over my left foot, spraining it. I'm lucky it wasn't broken! Yep that's right.
Okay, that really didn't happen. But it sounded better than telling you that I tripped over the cat carrier while getting Will a Band-Aid for HIS injured foot. Yep. That is what really happened. Pathetic, I know. Graceful, I'm not.
Hey - YOU try being a heart patient on crutches!

As you obviously know, today is July 14, 2007. And I bet you are wondering what is the significance of this date? Well, at this time exactly one year ago, I was in Cardiac ICU after undergoing open-heart surgery. I know! Can you believe it's been a year already?! Today is my new heart's birthday! Hooray for my excellent pig valve!

Yesterday, my beloved coworkers held a Happy Heart Day Party in honor of the anniversary. There was great conversation, cookies, and fun! I know. I'm so lucky to work in such a great place with even better people!

So, how did I spend my Heart Day today? Well, my wonderful mother-in-law is here, and she helped us prepare for a garage sale this past week. So today I spent sitting in the garage, waiting for people to come and buy my no-longer-wanted junk (it wasn't REALLY junk), and rereading "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." (I have to read it again to refresh my memory before the 7th book comes out next weekend.) It was pretty relaxing, actually.

Then my mother-in-law made lasagna (my FAVORITE dish of hers), and we gorged ourselves on that and garlic bread. And now I'm having a bit of red wine, and will have some ice cream before I go to bed. It's not every day someone has a heart day, after all. And I deserve it.

So tomorrow Will is going with his grandma to Montana, where she lives. He will be there for two and a half weeks until RobbieMax and I go there to meet up with him for our family reunion and vacation on August 3rd. I don't know how we will function without him for that long, but at least we will get to talk to him every day. And he will be having a great time. So that is some consolation.

My heart still does that funny thing (at least it still did while I was on crutches) while I'm exerting myself. So now that my foot is basically healed, I'm heading back to the gym this week. I'm nervous about it, so wish me luck. I'm going to start slow, since it's been a while. But if my heart starts acting up, I have to call my cardiologist and schedule an exercise test so they know what's going on. It'll be okay. I'll keep you updated. (I can't promise, but I'll try to post next week. You know what my track record at posting has been lately!)

Well, I'm gonna sign off and spend the last hour of my Heart Day with RobbieMax, ice cream, and wine.

Happy Heart Day to Me!!!!!
